Oldest surviving Daughter of Civil War Veteran

The civil war has always held a special meaning to Bedford County People. One of those is Bedford County nativeFreda Baughman, the oldest surviving daughter of a civil war veteran in Pennsylvania. At this years annual banquet we honored Freda.

She was escorted into the banquet ball by Bedford County residents William Mock, Vice President of the Gettysburg G.A.R. and Joe and Deb Topinka, civil war reenactors-living historians' and Bedford County Historical Society members.

Bill Mock cited Fred for her distinctive history and contributions to Bedford County. She was also adressed by Local, Pennsylvania State, and Federal Political leaders.

Her father who was in the civil war, Adam Baughman, was born on October 8 1842 and died in Everett, Bedford County, on October 21, 1925. He inlisted in the Union Army as private on February 20th, 1864 and served in the 186th Pa. Company "E" until his discharge on August 15, 1865. Freda spent her life volunteering just as her Father did in the civil war and in his life.

Civil war reenacting is not just bang bang shoot em up people dressing in old uniforms and running around fields, It a whole lifestyle. People has old fasioned family values and practice those values together as groups and people do fist person portrayals and learn everything about that person and convey the knowledge to the public. Even church services on sundays at events are practiced like the 1800s with our pastor, who portrays general Shedidan, offers a service that is very crowded with families and children dressed in period cothing.
