The Confederation of Union Generals is one of the fastest growing Living History organizations on the East Coast. The purpose of the Group is to educate the public about the military history and personalities of the Civil War by having its' members portray historical figures of the period, primarily Union Generals, officer staff, and noncommissioned officers.

Typically, the group sets up a General Headquarters camp, and educates the public through a series of "Meet The Generals" conferences where the Generals and support Staff address the visiting public in a first person, in character, narrative about their own role/accomplishments during the late "conflict".

As part of their preparation, each historical impressionist steeps himself in the history of the era, and of the personal history of their adapted "persona", so as to make a historically accurate presentation in both appearance and content. This approach has proven to be enormously appealing to the general public, an ideal way to engage people of all ages, especially youth, in the most defining moment of the country's history. It is believed to account largely for the success of the organization and its' growing popularity with organizers of historical events.
